I began painting in college. I received a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in the field of painting from Michigan State University in 1988. While at MSU, I was honored to win first place in the Painting division of the 1987 Undergraduate Exhibition, and an Honorable mention the following year. Other painting honors included a special faculty awarded scholarship specifically in the field of painting.
In the course of studies, I took an inordinate amount of History of Art classes, figuring that if I was going to try to make art, then I should be looking at it as an evolutionary process, and be building upon the discoveries of my predecessors. I was most taken with the period of post-impressionism, and these influences are felt somewhat in my paintings.
