Welcome to the zoomgraphics Absinthe Page! I first heard of this potent liquor in a History of Art class, and was instantly intrigued, despite my professor's warning that it "etched your brain." The artist studied at the time was Vincent Van Gogh, and as we proceeded into the twentieth century, the numerous recurrences of this intoxicant in art were frequent. The more I heard of this drink, with its special spoons and unique method of drinking, mixed with its romantic yet terrifying legend, the more curious I became. I soon realized a lot of people are unaware of the existence of absinthe, or how it was outlawed in a unique chapter of early twentieth century history.
So, to share with you some of the things I have learned about absinthe, here we have the zoomgraphics Absinthe Page. Now, there are other absinthe resources on the web, some of them quite informative, others waxing quite poetic. The aim here is not to merely duplicate the information already out there on absinthe, but to supplement it and expand on it. Here we will try to approach the information in a slightly different way, and create a general information resource about absinthe.
The main feature of this page will be the Absinthe Timeline. All information about absinthe presented here will be organized chronologically along this timeline, and all subject links will be mirrored on the timeline in a chronological fashion. Information is also going to be presented in a list form, such as "famous absinthe drinkers" and "brands available by country." (Sorry--at this time, some of these names are only examples of how information may be organized). Also, we will be including medical and scientific information on absinthe, but no recipes. Those are available elsewhere on the Web, but the manufacture of absinthe is illegal here in the U.S., and besides, would you want to risk your health on an unproven recipe?
Anyway, if you're interested in absinthe, bookmark this page! We will be updating it regularly, so check back often!
